Development of econometric methods to evaluate the Gender pay gap using Structure of Earnings Survey data

The Structural Indicator "Gender Pay Gap in unadjusted form" (GPG) is the relative difference between the average gross hourly earnings of women and men within the economy, based on the Structure of Earnings Survey (SES). It gives an overall picture of gender inequalities in terms of pay, which nevertheless corresponds to a concept broader than the principle of equal pay for equal work and makes comparisons among Member States difficult. In this context, the Working Paper presents the results of a study launched by Eurostat in order to propose a framework in which econometric analyses of the GPG can meaningfully be interpreted and their results compared between countries, as well as to investigate the possible measurement of an adjusted GPG (based on the SES).
